Raleigh Area Land Trust Welcomes New Leadership to Expand Affordable Housing Efforts

RALEIGH, NC January 29, 2025 — Raleigh Area Land Trust (RALT), a nonprofit committed to providing permanently affordable homeownership opportunities for first-time homebuyers in Wake County, proudly announces two key additions to its leadership team. Angel Johnson joins as Director of Homeownership and Stewardship Services, and Krista Padgett steps into the role of Administrative Director.

Executive Director Kevin Campbell expressed the importance of these new hires in advancing RALT’s mission to address the region’s affordable housing crisis.

“RALT has an ambitious plan to execute in 2025 to create lasting, transformative change in the housing landscape of Wake County,” said Campbell. “Adding Angel and Krista are a key part of our strategy to maximize the opportunity to expand our homeownership program.”

Angel Johnson is a proven advocate for housing stability and family empowerment. With over a decade of experience in nonprofit housing work, Angel has a track record of helping individuals navigate the complexities of homeownership. At Habitat for Humanity, she successfully mentored more than 75 families, providing them with financial readiness, housing stability tools, and neighbor relations strategies to ensure long-term success.

“Housing is more than just shelter—it’s a stepping stone to opportunity and security,” said Johnson. “I’m excited to be able to contribute my skills and grow alongside a dynamic team, to ensure safe, affordable housing for our future homebuyers!”

In her role, Angel will lead RALT’s efforts in homebuyer education, stewardship services, and community engagement to ensure families have the tools and resources to thrive.

Krista Padgett brings 25 years of expertise in nonprofit leadership, having held multiple strategic roles at Habitat for Humanity International, including Chief of Staff for executive leadership. Krista’s skills in organizational design, risk management, and leadership development will strengthen RALT’s operational foundation and drive sustainable growth.

“I am thrilled to be joining RALT's staff and the innovative efforts that are going to help us make Raleigh a great place to live, for everyone” said Padgett.

Krista will focus on enhancing RALT’s administrative infrastructure, ensuring the organization is equipped to serve more families and scale its impact across Wake County.
