Matthew Leatherman

Matt's career is in making money work for people. He is Managing Director - Research Strategist for FCLTGlobal, a nonprofit research institution with the mission of focusing capital on the long term in support of a sustainable and prosperous economy. Public investors who manage trillions of dollars rely on Matt’s analysis. Matt previously was Policy Director to North Carolina Treasurer Janet Cowell and worked closely with her to find innovative solutions for expanding health care access in rural areas, to initiate conversations about municipal resilience, and to implement a long-term stewardship policy for the roughly $100 billion in assets managed by the Treasurer’s office.
In addition to RALT, Matt serves on the board of the John Rex Endowment, a philanthropy that addresses social emotional health of children living in Wake County expressly through a racial equity perspective, and the Foundation for Health Leadership and Innovation, which pilots new health service programs across North Carolina.
Matt earned a Bachelor's degree from UNC and a Master's degree from Columbia University. He and his wife live in Raleigh with their two elementary-school age children.
